Motto by Hilton (New York, NY)
Brand Management and Curation, 2018-2022
Problem:
Hilton was launching it’s first lifestyle hotel in the heart of The Big Apple. This Motto by Hilton was the brand’s first new-build property since Motto’s founding in 2018. This hotel’s innovation relies on its accessibility in a prime location, offering flexibility for group travel (with connecting rooms and king “bunkies”) at a low nightly rate.
Design firm Stonehill Taylor was interested in creating a visual landscape that walked patrons through the heart of a city that never sleeps, focusing on the idea that New York City is humming with life for 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Solution:
For the guestroom artwork, I wanted to pull from NYC’s vibrant art and music scene. Prints of undulating dancers and staccato musical analysis punctuate the walls. A colorful chevron on the murphy beds pays homage to the hotel’s famed LGBTQIA+ neighborhood, Chelsea.
In the public spaces, a tongue-in-cheek nod to “the city that never sleeps” can be found on the second floor, while a glitter-dot artwork represents a both Chromium, the silvery 24th element on the periodic table, and 24-bit color, so relevant to our daily lives.
